Giovanni Battista Lulli (Jean-Baptiste Lully) is born in Florence, Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
March 22, 1687:
Jean-Baptiste Lully dies in Paris, Kingdom of France, aged 54 years, two months, and 22 days. Lully dies of gangrene from an injury caused by him striking his foot with his conducting staff. His mortal remains will be laid to rest in the Church of Notre Dame des Victoires, Paris.
March 14, 1778:
Houdon’s bust of Christoph Willibald Gluck (63) is placed in the Paris Opéra, next to those of Jean-Baptiste Lully (†90) and Jean-Philippe Rameau (†13).
May 19, 1892:
Incidental music to Molière’s play Le Sicilien by Jean-Baptiste Lully (†205), restored by Camille Saint-Saëns (56), is performed for the first time, in Palais Garnier, Paris.
